Duo faces prison for fraud

Two city residents face sentencing in January after admitting they defrauded the federal government of Section 8 housing funds by making false statements. Joseph Parise, Jr., 30, and Lori Conroy, 45, face terms of up to five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine when sentence is passed Jan. 14 and 5, respectively.

Students overwhem adults for generosity

When Principal Paul DeFonzo, St. Lawrence School, heard last week that the shelves at WHEAT, the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force, 674 Washington Ave., 931-9877, were nearly empty, he sprang into action. On Monday, Oct. 27 he informed his students and their parents that they would conduct a food drive for the next 4 days, Tuesday through Friday. ity’s Emergency Response System staff.

City earns "Best Place' designation

We must be doing something right. Business Week Magazine and BusinessWeek.com has rated West Haven as one of the country’s top communities to raise children. In a story published in its recent edition, West Haven beat out other, more affluent, communities due to its affordability and some of its amenities.

WHCH to host Tellabration!

The West Haven Community House will serve as the local site for the international story-telling event Tellabration! Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community House, 227 Elm St.  The WHCH Head Start program, in conjunction with the West Haven Family Resource Center , will host the free event for families, which is designed to introduce adults, as well as children, to the pleasures of the oral art of storytelling.

'68 Westies feted by Hall

On Friday Nov. 28, there will be a different type of reunion held at the West Haven Italian-American Club. Gathering that evening will be the members of the 1968 West Haven High School Football Team that won the District League title, West Haven’s first state championship and was ranked fifth in the nation. The team is to be inducted as a whole, the following evening at the WHHS Athletic Hall Of Fame Dinner.
