July 5 was a special day of remembrance for a small band of businessman-historians. The members of The Campbell Society conducted its annual gathering at the grave of Adjutant William Campbell on Prudden Street. On this anniversary they were not honoring a patriot, but one who was serving with the an invading British force during the Revolutionary War. |

City awaits crowds for the'works' |

With the long holiday weekend, and weather forecasts predicting agreeable temperatures, the city is preparing for tonight’s annual Bradley Point fireworks event that could bring the largest crowd in recent memory. Estimates range from between 80,000-100,000 each year, say city officials, but the weather-weekend combination might top even the best guesses. |

Health newsletter relaunced |

The Department of Health has launched a campaign to reintroduce a newsletter that tackles current health topics in an easy-to-use format. Each issue of the one-page Health Links newsletter provides topical, accurate and quick information as part of the department’s Health Alert Network, said editor Maureen B. Lillis, who also serves as the department’s webmaster. |

Sex offender law is tabled |

The attempt to limit the access of convicted sex offenders from so-called “Child Safety Zones” was put on hold Monday night after the city’s corporation counsel made the request. Peter Barrett recommended the City Council table the “Ordinance Concerning Child Safety Zone” after outlining various constitutional questions this and other ordinances in other municipalities have posed. |
