Carousel Comittee gains grant to seed future plans

The move to bring back a long-remembered attraction from the old Savin Rock Amusement Park got a small, but important boost this week. The Greater New Haven Community Foundation gave a $4,000 grant to the Savin Rock Carousel Committee. The money will be used to seed other parts of the project.

City's made strides in security

As the financial stability of our great city significantly improves from the crisis we inherited more than two years ago, we have cut our long-term debt from $271 million to $223 million in that time by restoring fiscal management and accountability.

Energy panel sets agenda

Last fall the city council approved Mayor John Picard’s ordinance to begin The West Haven Energy Commission. The mayor sought volunteers for the commission and by March of this year Caryn A. Converse, Kevin A. Davignon, Renny B. Loisel, Christopher G. Treat, and George Martin were appointed to the commission.

27th Festival kicks off July 25

For the 27th time, the four-day Savin Rock Festival will open in the place it has called home since the late 1980s: Old Grove Park.  

Scheduled to kick off July 24, the city’s flagship festival will run through July 27, when it will break up after dusk with one of the gala concerts that has characterized the event for nearly three decades.

Flyer prompts a quick response

The battle to see who will be the next Democratic Registrar of Voters heated up this week, as a flyer sent by the challenge candidate drew a swift response from those representing the endorsed camp. Supporters of incumbent Charles Marino labeled a flyer sent by the campaign of Michelle Hufcut as “riddled with misinformation” that prompted a response.

Commission dismisses '07 complaint

The State Elections Enforcement Commission has denied complaints by five city residents that claimed Mayor John Picard used a mailing to bolster his primary election bid in the summer/fall of 2007. By unanimous vote, the commission denied the complaints of Edward Calandro, Brent Coscia, Dominic Frencese, Philip Romanik and Robert Symmes.
