Oversight Committee explores options for City Hall

What to do with the city’s deteriorating City Hall was a question undertaken by the Building Oversight Committee at its meeting Tuesday night. The 37-year-old structure has been the proverbial “House that Jack Built” since it was opened with numerous structural and systemic problems.

City joins Clean Energy Fund

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) today announced that the City of West Haven, has joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program by committing to purchase at least 20 percent of its electricity for municipal facilities from clean, renewable energy sources by the year 2010.  West Haven officials signed a resolution declaring the city’s commitment, joining 84 other Connecticut municipalities that have made a commitment to a cleaner environment and greater energy independence.

Work begins on tidal gate at city creek

For most West Haven residents, Old Field Creek sounds like something out of a Zane Grey novel. If you asked them where it was, they probably couldn’t tell you.

But the creek that meanders through the city and empties into Long Island Sound near Sandy Point is finally getting a new tidal gate.

Libraries post fall programs

The West Haven Public Library Children’s and Teen’s Programs at the West Haven Main Library, 300 Elm St., include, “Baby Story Time” on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. for ages 0-1 from Oct. 1 through Oct. 29. “Toddler Story Time,” on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for ages 1-2 on Oct. 1 through Nov. 26. Storytimes for 3-5 year olds will be on Mondays at 10 a.m. on Oct. 6 through Nov. 24. “Moonlight Story Time,” on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. for ages 2-10, on September 23 will be themed on trains; Oct. 21 will be on pumpkins; Nov. 21 will be on Native Americans; and Dec. 16 will be on snow.
