| Duo faces prison for fraud |

Two city residents face sentencing in January after admitting they defrauded the federal government of Section 8 housing funds by making false statements. Joseph Parise, Jr., 30, and Lori Conroy, 45, face terms of up to five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine when sentence is passed Jan. 14 and 5, respectively.
According to an announcement made by Nora R. Dannehy, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, both Parise and Conroy pled guilty before Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven. Parise and Conroy were charged with one count o making a false statement to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Parise, according to documents filed in court, participated in the HUD Section 8 housing program from Oct. 2002 to June 2006 as a landlord. He concealed the fact that while accepting HUD subsidies he allowed family members and himself to live in the housing designated for the program. On Oct. 16, Conroy, who is Parise’s half-sister, admitted that from Nov. 2005 to September 2007, whe received HUD subsidies, but concealed from the agency she no longer lived in the house. |
