Arts Center plans moving

Lights, camera, arts center. Preliminary plans are under way to turn the city-owned Masonic Temple on Center Street into a grand, multimillion-dollar for the performing arts that will eventually house the West Haven Cultural Arts Center.

As the financial stability of our great city significantly improves from the crisis we inherited more than two years ago, we have cut our long-term debt from $271 million to $223 million in that time by restoring fiscal management and accountability.

To put the rumors to rest, the state Office of Policy and Management cannot and will not take over our city’s finances. On April 28, Finance Director Robert O. Barron, city auditor McGladrey & Pullen LLP and I met with OPM officials in Hartford to discuss the state of our finances.
