Watching the coverage of the credit crunch/bailout over the last few days we are amazed at the lack of in-depth questioning the mainstream media is asking. It has been about two months since the first indication of the credit crunch hit the newswires. |

Well, sweets, the yams are gone, the turkey’s been picked to the bone, and whot’s left is the four-week slog to another holiday. And don’t gimme any o’ that “Happy Holiday” stuff. Yew know as well as I that it’s Christmas season, pure and simple. So, unless yore greeting is gonna be the more English, “Happy Christmas,” jest say, “Merry Christmas” and we’ll git along jest great. |

As we mark another Thanksgiving Day, it is proper, we think, to remember why it is this day became the tradition it is. Begun in New England during colonial times, Thanksgiving Day was the premiere holiday in a land that eschewed Christmas as an affront to Puritan Christianity. It remembered those who came to this land seeking a new life, A City on a Hill. |

Here we are sweets, it’s Thanksgiving Day, a big one around here. Artie Yost and his committee have been woiking hard and long to get the annual community dinner ready. But, like most people hereabouts, Artie kind o’ blanched when the Mystick Maidens of the Marsh said they could volunteer with the dinner. Artie is not one to pussyfoot around, and jest said that whilst he thanked us for the offer, he didn’t think he could accept our help. Effen we didn’t git that reaction from everyone else, I think the MMMs would take it personally. |

The recent revelation the Office of Policy and Management is unhappy with the way Mayor John Picard and Finance Director Robert Barron are handling the city’s financial crisis should come as a shock to no one. Last week, blaring headlines gave the implication the state agency was alarmed at the city’s financial status and worried we are on the precipice of a meltdown. |
